Privacy Policy

Caply is built to be private by default. Caply is free. There is no account, no tracking, and we do not sell or share your data. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what Caply does with information.

What Caply stores on your device

Caply uses Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage) to remember your settings and preferences only, for example:

• Whether Caply is turned on or off
• Your assistance level (Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced)
• Your reading-style (immersion) setting
• Dyslexia font on/off
• Your chosen translation language
• Small interface state (panel position, whether the first-run hint was shown)

This information stays on your device (and, for synced settings, in your own Google account via Chrome Sync). We never receive it. There is no Caply server that collects it. Caply does not track your browsing history and does not store what you watch.

Subtitle data

Caply reads the subtitle data that YouTube and Netflix already deliver to your browser, so it can display each word at the right moment. This processing happens locally, in your browser. For the core word-by-word feature, subtitle text is not sent anywhere.

Translation (dual subtitles — optional)

If you turn on dual subtitles, Caply sends the subtitle text of the line currently shown to a third-party translation service to get a translation back:

• Google Translate (translate.googleapis.com)
• MyMemory (api.mymemory.translated.net)

Only the caption text is sent. No personal data, no account, and no identifiers are attached. If you never enable dual subtitles, no subtitle text ever leaves your browser.

What Caply does NOT do

• No account, no email required
• No ads or ad networks
• No browsing-history tracking
• No selling, renting, or sharing of data
• No analytics that identify you
• No audio capture
• No payments (Caply is free)

Permissions, and why

• storage — save your settings and preferences on your device
• activeTab — act on the YouTube or Netflix tab you're currently watching
• alarms — keep the extension responsive in the background (service worker)
• host access (youtube.com, netflix.com) — run only on these sites
• host access (translate.googleapis.com, api.mymemory.translated.net) — used only to fetch translations when you enable dual subtitles

Changes

If this policy changes, the "last updated" date above will change. Material changes will be noted in the extension's update notes.
